Matthew Wong, a 17-year-old from Hong Kong, has always been passionate about education and giving back to his community. Recognizing the barriers many underprivileged children face in accessing quality learning, he set out to create an initiative that would offer them the support and encouragement they need to thrive.

With the backing of CMHQ, Matthew's project took off. CMHQ helped him navigate the logistics, recruit volunteers, and design engaging, child-centered activities. Through ongoing guidance via Slack and personalized support calls, Matthew was able to structure a well-rounded program that truly made a difference.

His initiative focuses on providing English lessons to children from underprivileged backgrounds in Kowloon. Every week, a team of three dedicated volunteers offers an hour-long session designed to be interactive and fun. From board games to hands-on learning exercises, each activity is tailored to capture the attention of young learners and foster their language development in a supportive, engaging environment.

Matthew’s efforts have not only improved the children’s language skills but also boosted their confidence and enthusiasm for learning. For the volunteers, the experience has been deeply rewarding as they see the positive impact their time and dedication are making.

“I believe education is the key to unlocking potential, and being able to offer that to children who might not otherwise have access is incredibly fulfilling,” Matthew shares. “I couldn’t have achieved this without the constant support from CMHQ.”

For youth eager to lead their own service initiatives, CMHQ offers the resources, connections, and guidance needed to turn their vision into reality. Get started today and make an impact in your community.
