Burkina Faso Tree Planting Initiative
Youth take sustainability into their own hands and plant trees in their community.

Ingrid, a 17-year-old from Burkina Faso, has always been passionate about environmental protection and giving back to her community. Recognizing the impact of deforestation and climate change on her neighborhood, she set out to create an initiative that would foster biodiversity and promote sustainability.
With the backing of CMHQ, the project quickly gained momentum. CMHQ supported her through the planning process, helping with logistics, recruiting volunteers, and arranging necessary resources. Through personalized support calls and guidance on execution, Ingrid and her team were able to structure a well-rounded program that truly made a difference.
Her initiative focused on planting trees around the Community Health Center (CHC) in Barogo, a neighborhood that was in need of green spaces and shade. With the help of a dedicated team of 15 volunteers, they organized an event on October 12, 2024, to plant 50 trees—an inspiring mix of eucalyptus, shade trees, flamboyant, and mango trees. Each type of tree was carefully chosen to promote biodiversity and create a welcoming environment.
The team started early, dividing into small groups to cover different areas of the CHC grounds. With guidance from a local gardener, they carefully placed each tree, ensuring it was planted properly and could thrive. Despite the 36°C heat, the volunteers worked together with enthusiasm and determination, turning a simple planting day into a celebration of community and environmental responsibility.
The results of Ingrid’s efforts are already visible. The newly planted trees are adding shade and fresh air to the CHC, and the community has responded with gratitude and pride. “Knowing that these trees will grow and help our environment is incredibly fulfilling,” Ingrid shared.
